X Lost Record Number of Users After Election Day

A record number of X/Twitter users shut down their accounts on Nov. 6, likely to oppose Elon Musk and his vocal support of Donald Trump, who won re-election the day before. The data comes from internet traffic analyzer Similarweb, which says 115,000 US-based web visitors deactivated their X accounts after Election Day. "That finding is based on tracking visits to the confirmation page on x.com (and previously twitter.com) that users see after confirming they want to deactivate their accounts." That's the biggest drop the social network has seen since Musk formally took over the platform in October 2022, when 86,565 people hit that confirmation page. Another 65,000 ditched their accounts on Dec. 15, 2023, after Musk restored the account of conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.
